Edited by Abigail Bourne, this delightful comedy by William Shakespeare revolves around two couples; Benedick & Beatrice, and Claudio & Hero. Benedick and Beatrice are engaged in a very "merry war"; they both glibly proclaim their scorn for love, marriage, and each other. In contrast, earnest Claudio and sweet Hero are rendered practically speechless by their love for one another. All seems idyllic, but the power of rumors soon turns life from joy to darkness. The trust of one couple is destoryed, while bringing into light the love of the other. Benedick and Beatrice are tricked into confessing their love for each other, and Claudio is tricked into rejecting Hero at the altar. The villian responsible is soon discovered, captured, and the dead are seemingly raised to life.
